L-IFE "Growing Future"

Visual Identity

L-IFE is a company operating in the European market, specializing in the production of completely compostable items created by the use of fungal root structures (mycelium). Mycelium grows on substrates made from natural waste materials, creating a resilient and long-lasting structure. L-IFE’s core values include innovation, sustainability, and well-being.

The mission is to reduce dependence on plastic materials, with a commitment to improving indoor air quality and reducing mold spores and fine dust through the mycelium’s passive filtration properties.

Mycelium has the unique ability to grow rapidly in various container shapes, providing customers with a variety of products tailored to their needs.

Concept

The name L-IFE is composed of the letter ‘L’ and the word ‘IFE,’ which is the Italian plural of ‘ifa’ (hypha). The challenge to address was the hyphen ‘-,’ as breaking the name creates readability issues and may appear graphically unattractive. In reality, the hyphen is the element that encapsulates L-IFE’s values of innovation, sustainability, and plastic reduction. This symbol, resembling an hypha, represents the connection between innovation and sustainability, technology and nature. The slant adds a sense of optimism, and the organic shape in a single corner emphasizes the duality. Furthermore, the hyphen and the letter ‘I’ together form the mycelium root structure.

Logotype

I started work on logotype, focusing on the hypha, a simple element positioned in a way that you can read LIFE clearly (not L-IFE). It has been build by using the Chesna Grotesk Semibold typeface, a geometric and modern font with unique details and alternate glyphs that make it stand out, aligning well with the brand’s identity and personality.

Symbol

The logotype has been paired with a symbol created by a 360° rotation of the ‘-I’. This creates a circular structure which recalls the mycelium network.
